What does it cost?
The total cost depends on the complexity of the requirements and the badge as well as the verbosity of the documentation. If you send us your general requirements (NVLAP all categories, plus site specific neutron correction for example) then we can give you a firm quotation. If cost is a big issue, and you happen to use the Panasonic UD-802, then you might be able to get by with the generic algorithm. This depends on how well your response matrix agrees with that obtained by Panasonic in 2002.

How long does it take?
The time to develop an algorithm depends to some extent on the complexity of the requirements. For a four element badge, we can normally get a preliminary version, suitable for testing, out within two weeks. More time is required for fine tuning and documentation. Total time can be as little as one month. Top

What is included in the documentation?
There are two options for the documentation: abbreviated and verbose. The abbreviated option includes a flowchart and the computer code with minimal text. The verbose option includes a full discussion of the technique used, full presentation of all functions and correction factors, and how they were derived; comparison to the existing algorithm using site personnel data or proficiency test data. The verbose option runs 60-100 pages. Top

Who is using a Stanford Dosimetry algorithm?
Our clients include nuclear power plants (NVLAP); USDOE facilities (DOELAP); and commercial processors (NVLAP and DOELAP); international processors and military (US and international.). Over 1 million doses are reported per year using algorithms designed by Stanford Dosimetry. Top

What standard is the algorithm designed to meet?
This is up to the customer. We have designed algorithms to meet NVLAP (ANSI N13.11) as well as DOELAP in the USA. It is recommended that the customer supply site specific fields or requirements as well. Top

Is it a linear or branching algorithm?
This is a hot topic in algorithm design, especially in EU countries. Our algorithms contain decision points, this makes them branching. They also contain both algorithms also contain decision points.Top

How does it work, what do you need from me?
You send us the response matrix (response of the dosimeter elements for a range of fields that covers the intended application) and the capability requirements (NVLAP, DOELAP, etc.) We generate preliminary correction factor functions, check the performance and supply you with a PC based Algorithm Application to test. Once we get the go ahead, we then finalize the functions and begin the documentation. Top

How do I get it coded into my processing computer?
The documentation includes the Visual Basic code used in the PC Algorithm Application (used for all testing). This code is also provided in electronic format. We work with your computer people to ensure that the code is transferred accurately. Top

What support options do you offer?
We offer four different algorithm support options starting at about $2k per year. Support offered includes free updates to the PC Algorithm Application, reporting format revisions, assistance with proficiency testing results, analysis of in-house testing results, dose investigations, blind spike program analysis and quarterly reporting, minor revisions (correction factor adjustment) and major revisions (full function re-derivation.) email for more details. Is there a demo program I can play with?
We are very proud of our demo program. It includes four different Stanford Dosimetry algorithms including two four element algorithms (UD-802 and the UD-814A4) and two eight element algorithms. The program includes the response matrix for these different dosimeter designs and allows the user to "dose" the badge by clicking on fields and entering doses. Then you can see just how well the algorithms work for any combination of fields you throw at it. You can also enter net responses and check it that way. These algorithms were designed for the included response data, and may not be accurate for your particular dosimeter. But they do demonstrate the capabilities of our algorithms, designed around customer response data. Click here to go to the download page. Top

Can I get the PC Algorithm Application without contracting for a full algorithm development?
Since 2002 we have also been offering the PC Algorithm Application for non-Stanford Dosimetry algorithms. Try out the demo program and see if you don't agree that this type of tool would make it much easier to carry out investigations, run proficiency testing data and perform what-ifs for your dosimeter/algorithm. Can I get the PC Algorithm Application source code?
Tell us why you want it and we can talk about it.Top

Can I try the PC Algorithm Application?
Yes! Just go to the download page and download the demo program. It will give you a very accurate look at the program and you can see if you think it is worthwhile. Top
